3.Difference between Training and Development
With the word of work continuing to evolve, many company leaders are taking a deeper look into employee training and development to help with engagement, retention and hiring. Training and development are mostly used together, but they are a significant differences in training and development.
What is Training?
The process of training Increasing the knowledge, skills and abilities of employees for doing work is known as a training. It is a process by which attitudes, skills and capabilities to do a particular job increased. It is a process of learning new skills and applying knowledge. It's main aim is to improve the performance of the current job and prepare them for any future job. Training enhances productivity and reduce accidents and wasted of resources. It also helps to increase the morale of and satisfaction of the employees.
What is Development?
Development refers to the overall growth of the employees. These are learning opportunities that are designed for employees to grow. This includes not only those activities which help to improve employees performance but also helping employees growth.
Key differences between training and development
- Definition - Training refers to the process of increasing the knowledge ,skills, and abilities of employees for doing work ,and also Development refers to the overall growth of the employee .Basically these are designed for employees to growth.
- Aim -Training process aim is to help the employee to do the job better but development aim is the overall growth of the employees.
- Orientation - Training is job oriented and Development is career oriented.
- Scope of learning - Training has a narrow scope as its a part of development,Development is a broader scope as its includes training as well.
- Sustainability - Training is most suitable for technical staff on the other hand development is suits for managerial staff.
- Skills -Training content technical skills and Development content technical,human and conceptual skills.
- Duration - Training is a short term process and Development is long term process as its career oriented.
The purpose of Training
- To provide the ability to undertake a task or job
- To improve productivity and workforce flexibility
- To improve safety and quality
- To improve the capability of the workforce
The purpose of Development
- Better knowledge
- Changing attitudes
- Increased capability and skills.
Training and development is all about building the personality and attitude of the employee for facing future challenges. Therefore they are vital for an employee, whether new or existing.
